PHOENIX, AZ – An 18-year-old woman was arrested in connection with a fatal collision that claimed the life of a 75-year-old man last Friday, March 6.
Phoenix Police told Arizona Family the incident unfolded when the 18-year-old woman, identified as Selene Garcia Telix, first sideswiped a Dodge Charger. Telix continued driving 77 mph in a 35 mph zone, ran a red light at North 3rd Avenue and West Indian Road, and collided with a Chevy Cruze.
The driver of the Chevy, identified as 75-year-old John Conway, proceeded through the intersection on a green light.
EMS crews rushed Conway to the hospital, where he later died.
During the investigation period, Telix admitted to police that she was talking on the phone while driving and also confessed that she did not have a driver’s permit or license.
Police booked Telix into the Maricopa County Jail, where she is being held on a $150,000 pond. She is being charged with manslaughter, leaving the scene of a crash, and driving with a suspended or revoked license.
