MARANA, AZ – Three high school students and one adult were injured in a collision between a bus and an SUV that occurred on Interstate 10 near West Tangerine Road Tuesday afternoon, according to AZFamily.
Nicolas Luis Rodriguez, 30, was allegedly impaired as he drove an SUV east on Interstate 10. He tried to change lanes and hit a school bus occupied by 40 people around 1:30 p.m.
The collision caused the bus to hit the median barrier cable and overturn onto its side.
First responders transported four people to area hospitals with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Two school buses provided by the Marana Unified School District transported the remaining students to local hospitals as a precaution.
Authorities arrested Rodriguez and charged him with three felony counts of aggravated assault. He was booked into jail on a $100,000 bond. Police say he tested positive for marijuana at the time of the collision.
Police obtained samples of Rodriguez’s blood using a search warrant. Those results are pending and may result in more serious charges for Rodriguez.
