PHOENIX, AZ – A 48-year-old man was killed following a head-on collision with a city bus in the Estrella Village on Monday, AZ Family reports.
The collision happened at the intersection of 51st Avenue and West Lower Buckeye Road. Police said the incident unfolded when the 48-year-old man attempted to pass traffic by using a left-turn lane. He swerved to avoid crashing into another vehicle and collided head-on with the Valley Metro city bus.
EMS crews transported the 48-year-old man to a hospital, where he later died. He has since been identified as Mota Jr. Delfino.
The bus driver was uninjured. The bus sustained damage to its side, and the front of the pickup truck was significantly damaged.
Officials shut down Lower Buckeye Road from 45th Avenue to 50th Avenue.
