News: Red light runner causes deadly crash in Union Hills Estates 

PHOENIX, AZ – A red light runner was responsible for causing a deadly crash that killed himself and a front-seat passenger in the Union Hills Estates area on Wednesday.

AZ Family said the two-vehicle collision occurred around 2:15 p.m. at the intersection of 35th Avenue and Union Hills Drive. The red light runner, later identified as 37-year-old Pedro Lopez Cardona, was traveling at a high rate of speed and proceeded through the intersection, crashing into a left-turning car.

Lopez Cardona was ejected from his SUV and died from his injuries at the scene. A passenger from the other vehicle, 63-year-old Boniface Black, also died from her injuries at the scene.

Black’s driver survived and was taken to a hospital, where she is recovering from critical injuries. Another person was injured, but officials did not say what vehicle they were in.

A full investigation is underway.
